Isn't there a simple way to create the infamous autorun thing? autorun.exe on a floppy starts up the app. autorun.exe on a CD starts up the main app. Last thing I remember it was confusing/retarded/dumb as he_ _ to get something to autorun... or is it just me? (Don't answer that. :) Troy http://www.MagazineSubscribers.com I sell magazines for a living, so what!? :) |

Wesley Mason Unregistered User (9/22/99 11:34:55 am) Reply | Edit | Del | Nope.. Not unless the person has added the right information to their registry to force the disk to autorun (and even CD-ROM autoruns can be bypassed by the user). |

Troy McDonald Local user (9/22/99 1:35:34 pm) Reply | Edit | Del | Like I said.... Jim, 1) That shows for a CD, not diskette. ??? 2) Looks as confusing and as hard as hell. Why can't some idiot make a CD or Diskette when placed in drive look for autorun.exe if it exists, run the program it says to? Jim Brammer ![]() Administrator (9/23/99 8:36:35 am) Reply | Edit | Del | Re: Like I said.... No sarcasm intended but, read it more carefully... It says, "Edit the registry and make Floppy Diskettes autorun-able!" Editing the registry is not hard. And, you only have to do it once. Not each time you want to autorun from diskette. You do not have to make an "Autorun.exe". You only need a ascii text file named "Autorun.inf". Inside that file is... [autorun] open=filename.exe Where "filename.exe" is the name of your executable. When the CD is inserted Windows looks for "Autorun.inf". When it finds it Windows reads the file and acts as instructed. (e.g., OPEN MYPROGRAM.EXE) It's not hard. Any "idiot" can do it... ;) Jim Brammer * jbrammer@tima.com * https://members.tripod.com/~neodezign/ |
